Workshops

School Visits and Adult workshops

I have several years of experience running both workshops for teens and adults. I work as a writing retreat coordinator for Writer's HQ, running monthly one day writing workshops for grown-ups who need the space to get writing done. I have also run workshops in school, most recently as the Writer-In-Residence for Xaverian College in Manchester.

Workshop Aim – I aim to engage writers and help them to overcome writing blocks, both in class at at home. Through a combination of brainstorming and writing sprint exercises, my writers will come away with a sense of achievement and will have banished the blank page!

Credentials – To add to my experience as outlined above, I also have an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Manchester. I have experience working with vulnerable young people and am in possession of a current, enhanced DBS check. See below for testimonials.

Availability – I am based in the North West of England, in High Peak. I am happy to travel anywhere within the UK to conduct workshops, or work through an online classroom/ video service such as Skype. I will have to charge travel expenses for workshops conducted more than one hour's drive from my home.

Booking – To book with me, or ask a question, please use the contact form attached to this website. My prices are largely negotiable for educational establishments and charities, and are charged on a sliding scale for repeat bookings. I look forward to hearing from you!

"During the winter term, Melissa gave a weekly creative writing class at Xaverian College. The class was open to both lower and upper sixth students who attended on a voluntary basis. All the students really enjoyed the sessions and were delighted with the guidance they received in the production of their own work. Students were able to engage with poetic forms and prose and produced work of a very high calibre; some have since been published locally."
